training Topics overview

Developing life-saving skills, insight, and resilience does not happen through good intentions, having a closed mind, or repeating behavior that does not work. This evolution requires systemic change, focused effort, honest communication, clear feedback, and repetition of healthy behavior over time. The following topics are critical in transforming change in personal lives, family dynamics, departments, and communities.

Trauma Education

Learning about trauma requires that we learn about our biology and how we can best regulate our stress response systems. When you better understand how the body and mind respond to trauma, you can apply life-changing skills that take you from barely surviving to thriving.

Personal Balance (Work/Home)

Personal balance looks different for everyone.

Managing adult duties, family responsibilities, and stressful career issues takes work. In order to enjoy life in and outside of work, you need plans to make that happen. This training provides instruction on how to build the kind of balance and lifestyle that serves you and your family.

Alcohol & Substance Abuse

Self-medication, especially with alcohol, is a common challenge in the first responder community.  Stress, sleep deprivation, relationship issues, and over-stimulation drive many responders to self-medicate. Unintentionally, many of those individuals develop an unhealthy relationship or dependence on substances to make it through the day. Correcting that dependence takes effort, new skills, and support. There is hope!

Suicidal Ideation

Constant exposure to human suffering, anger, and ingratitude is, unfortunately, part of the first responder job description. Because of stigmas surrounding mental health, those suffering from this pressure don't get the support they need.  There are ways to prevent disaster and get help for those who need it.

Stress Resilience

Changing the way you navigate stress is one of the biggest investments you will ever make. Developing awareness, improving your health, and communicating differently starting with learning more about yourself. We have skills that can help.

Strained Relationships

The quality of our relationships greatly impacts our enjoyment of our lives. However, communication issues, interpersonal problem-solving, and our ability to connect with others are significantly impacted when our mental health is struggling. One of the best ways to improve your relationships is to improve your mental health.
